I like listening to books at work. But looking at any catalogue is just decision paralysis extreme.

So far I’ve listened to books related to things I enjoy, or things my partner enjoyed growing up.

I really liked Patrick Rothfuss’ books, even when listening to them I got so lost into it I forgot I was working for the whole runtime.
Other books I enjoyed was the Night Angel trilogy, Witcher books, and half enjoyed Harry Potter (also learned I really don’t like a lot of the teenage writing in that one).

But as I listened to more books, I realised that shit writing is really shit when I’m forced to sit in on it all. My partner said she loved Eragon when she grew up and after listening to 3 books and honestly being extremely bored of all of them, I can confidently say that they are great lullabies and I would be more interested in listening in on an encyclopedia than something like that.
I also hated Clan of the Cave Bears and its first sequel (which my partner said she enjoyed), it felt like (sorry for my language) Mary Sue and Gary Stu bullshit fanfiction.

Anything anyone can recommend? I can say I have 0 interest in Tolkien as I hate being stuck on set dressing for 20 minutes, and no GRR Martin interest either.

I know it’s quite an ask. I just refuse to believe that Patrick Rothfuss is the only writer that I truly love, and I just don’t have the knowledge. Please, someone skilled and well versed, share me your wisdom!
