I’ve been rekindling my love of reading recently and I love it.

My boyfriend hasn’t read in a long time. Nothing against that at all, we both stopped reading for similar reasons.

This thread is me asking mostly for what I think he’d be interested in. If he’s ever interested again in reading books, I’d love to be there to give him suggestions of things he might actually enjoy, or even give them as gifts.

I ask for sci-fi and adventure themes because of his love of movies. Specifically he likes those that revolve around sci-fi, he enjoys a good action packed movie, he alsi likes characters he can relate to (usually male).
So I’d love to hear suggestions. I also suggest fast paced because I don’t know if he’d be interesting in something that progresses a little slower. So maybe one off books as far as suggestions go, as opposed to a series? Also fiction preferred.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. 200 pages. Military SF. A fresh out of boot camp private finds himself in a time loop after dying in his first battle against the aliens invading Earth.

Logan’s run is pretty short, it has great pace and the story is great. Also so androids dream of electric sheep by Phillip K. Dick is a great short story.

Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Pretty wild science fiction, not a long book, and pretty fast-paced.

I’d recommend the murderbot diaries by Martha wells! They are a sci fi series, but it’s a series of mostly novellas and are very fast paced/action packed, so they are easy to get into. The main character is a genderless cyborg, but everyone I’ve known who has read them have related to the main character anyway. The audiobooks (which are available on Libby in many bigger libraries) for it are also excellent, so would be a great way to get back into reading!

The Vorkosigan Saga. The Warrior’s Apprentice stands alone well, but the whole saga is fantastic.

    6. I’ve seen ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Do Androids dream of electric sheep’, have already been suggested, and they are both absolutely fantastic books. I’d also suggest ‘Neuromancer’ by William Gibson, and ‘Twenty thousand leagues under the sea’ by Jules Verne. Enjoy!

You could try the Quadrail series by Timothy Zahn, beginning with the first book, {{Night Train to Rigel by Timothy Zahn}}.

I recently got into reading again, I’m a huge sci-fi/action guy and this book series totally scratched my itch. Zahn is a good author, highly recommend anything written by him.

    8. Somebody’s looking for Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells… Oh goodness imagine discovering this for the first time! The first few books are short to decide if he likes them – and they are available in an outstanding audiobook series as well. Give him a treat! Yay Murderbot!

    9. How about The Martian by Andy Weir? (Or, if he’s literally seen that movie, Project Hail Mary.)

    10. The Martian or Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir are both very science-y sci-fi books that move fast and are from a male POV. Very easy to read. Project Hail Mary just helped me get out of a bit of a reading slump, and I would highly recommend it!

    11. Does he like video games and/or DnD?

If so I highly recommend the audiobook for Dungeon Crawler Carl. It’s a wild damn ride.

Will save the galaxy for food and Will destroy the galaxy for cash by Yahtzee Croshaw. An unemployed star pilot tries to get by in a universe where transporters are a thing.

    13. I am in the middle of The Expanse novels and I have really enjoyed them. Lots of characters for folks to get attached to, lots of stuff happening.

    14. *Leviathan Wakes* (and probably the rest of the Expanse series). I just read it and it was so much fun. Very cinematic, a lot of adventure – the vibes were kind of like Three Musketeers in space.
