I recently read ‘how the brain lost its mind’ and ‘the great influenza’. Both are stories about medical discoveries that also have biographies of great scientists embedded within the story? Is there anything similar? Im mostly interested in medicine, not other areas of science

i think you would enjoy “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”
If you are down for a Victorian/Edwardian era book, the Story of San Michele by Axel Munthe is a really interesting. It’s the autobiography of a doctor; it includes his experience working to develop the rabies vaccine, his thoughts of restoring an ancient Italian villa, his magical trips to Lapland, and many other unusual anecdotes.
The butchering art is about the history of surgery and gives a bit of a biography of Joseph Liszt
