Last few vacations I’ve been on I’ve brought along wordy, literary classics and struggled to get into them. I don’t know, something about reading next to the pool in the sunshine with a fruity cocktail just doesn’t fit. I need something more lighthearted, still well written but not a hard read and not complete fluff or trash, it has to be worthwhile.

For example, when not on vacation authors I can really dig into are like Dostoyevsky, Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde, Steinbeck, Faulkner, Aldous Huxley, Ian McEwan, Hemmingway etc but not good choices for poolside. Maybe something more like a Catch 22 or Breakfast of Champions kinda thing, still a great book, but funny and clever…more along the lines of David Sedaris, Douglas Adams, John Kennedy Toole, something like that. Genre doesn’t matter too much, I’m pretty flexible, thanks in advance!
