I’m looking for books/series similar to early YA stuff like The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, The Mortal Instruments series and others like that. I’m a big fan of dystopia and fantasy, and recently enjoyed the Shatter Me series (only I couldn’t get past the third book since the ending was extremely disappointing to me).
I’m struggling to find book recommendations that don’t involve overly egregious smut/repetitive romance. A lot of YA book recs now are very smut and romance centric which Im kinda tired of.
I’ve been thinking of starting the Percy Jackson series too! I’d love to hear any other books that are similar 🙂

If you’re drawn to stories of personal discovery and societal norms, ‘Jane Eyre’ by Charlotte Brontë is my suggestion. It’s a novel that combines elements of romance, morality, and Gothic literature, all while presenting a strong and independent female protagonist.
[Unwind](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/13643974-53b8-40c5-82f9-553b746d3669) by Neal Shusterman!
And if you’re open to middle grade (which it seems like you are, since you mentioned Percy Jackson), my favorite fantasy series is [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend!
The Giver by Lois Lowry.
