Last year, for personal growth, I created a reading goal of trying to read at least one hour every single day and being honest I failed at it.

I’m curious to know about your situation as well:

\- Do you also want to read every day? Why?

\- Are you being able to succeed?

\- How is it affecting you?

    1. Not since I took up listening to audio books. I don’t have to have eyes on the words all the time now so minor interruptions or tasks don’t cause me to stop enjoying my book. I listen every day, I love my books. Before audio I did resent interruptions, and it took some pleasure from reading, I was resistant but now I’m very glad I tried audio.

    2. I read most days.
In 2022 I tracked my days and there were about 20 days over the course of the year that I didn’t read. In 2023 I made it a goal to read *every single day*, which I managed to do but felt that it didn’t actually help my reading life.

If reading is a new habit for you, setting daily or weekly goals is a good idea. Do cut yourself some slack though, you don’t want it to feel like a chore!

    3. I was an avid reader growing up and until about my early 20s, for the last like 8 years or so I really struggled unless I was travelling.

This year, I wanted to get back into it because my friends started talking about the books they were reading. I stopped smoking 🍃 as a resolution and inadvertently traded one habit for another (I was always too tired and would just doom scroll). Now, I read before bed for a good hour every day and I find it helps me wind down and I look forward to it. I’m on my 4th book of the year!

I hope it continues but I think I have to be more intentional and aware of my goals overall.

I struggled a lot reading before bed. Finally accepted that was not for me, not the ideal time to read. So, I usually keep books in my office. I clock in at 8:00am but I’m usually around 7:30 at my job, which gives me around 30 minutes of reading before I have to start working. And then at my lunch break, I eat my lunch in 15minutes, and then read for 45 minutes until I have to go back again. I’m loving those 30 minutes in the morning, makes me feel more focused when I start working

I read the books I want to read whenever I want to read them. I also read as many books as I want at the same time. After adopting that policy I started reading much more.

If in a given day you don’t have the passion or don’t enjoy reading, don’t do it!

I read when I first wake up in the morning. I usually find myself reading later in the day also, but if I don’t, at least I did when I got up. Sometimes it’s just a few pages, sometimes I’ll clear a few chapters. It depends on the morning.

    7. I try to read before bed, but then I get too into the book and keep reading until I finish it or the sun starts rising, whichever comes first. I have tried at different times too and it’s the same. I have just admitted defeat and binge read when I find something I like.
