Afghanistan is so rich with history and the present that you could overstuff any travel volume with facts and asides. Mr. Stewart limits himself to the immediate, connected to where he is. The customs of hospitality, Sunni-Shia splits, finding the Spire of Jam, the poverty and what are these people in Land Cruisers (Afghan and Westerners) are going to do about it?
Well written, dense with experience and live truly lived. A joy to read.
