Hello, I was looking through my kindle wishlist and library and realized that I read a lot of novel series and when I tried looking for stand alone ones I didn’t find much (guessing the store recommended a lot of series sine I read a lot of them) and I found myself unable to think of many so I would love to hear some recommendations.
I like to read basically any genre though I’m not looking for non-fiction. Please avoid the obvious classics like Count of Monte Cristo, Dracula, East of Eden and such, those I’ve read or plan to read. I’m also already a huge fan of Neil Gaian, Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut and Terry Pritchett so I don’t need any books from them.
Thank you for your time and I hope I it doesn’t sound like just a bunch of caveats, I just wanted to be as clear as possible.

Not sure exactly what you’re looking for, so will throw a few out…
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes that will definitely give you something to think about.
City of Thieves by David Benioff for both depressing war time AND great humor.
Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley for a contemporary, urban setting.
And because most of those tend toward kind of sad, A Thousand Steps by T. Jefferson Parker for a bit of mystery and 60s hippy lifestyle.
Aren’t all novels stand alone?
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke.
It is a long book but really worth the investment.
