When they left Beartown, the bass player told Benji that he wished he could come find him, the teacher said he wished to be “something more” with Benji. After Benji left town, he didn’t call or look for any of them. He went to Asia and somewhere “no one knows what hockey is”. I really hoped Benji looked for one of them and stayed with them. I thought love like a steady-flowing stream could cure his wound somehow.
He told the handsome young man with a boat he story and feeling for hockey, the next morning he leave secretly. I was heartbroken when the young man shouted his name after he woke up.
Benji’s love story were all so powerful. I thought if he stick to someone he could find peace in life. But that isn’t him. Benji never belong to anything or anyone. He’s someone isolated from the world. In his world it’s only him.
So Benji really didn’t want to stay with people who know what he was, that he once was a beloved hockey player. He’s some rootless person who just try to make life pass on. I really hoped he could find his harbor but that’s who Benji is. THAT’S Benji. He doesn’t need a shelter. He’s looking for answers in the bottom of bottles but what is he searching for?? I can’t figure it out. He isn’t like anyone in the whole world. I really can’t figure it out.
