I enjoy books (and films/TV for that matter) that select a snapshot of a period in time and start and finish reasonably abruptly, maybe with an ambiguous ending. Essentially, books that revolve around a moment in time.
Examples: Pereira Maintains – Antonio Tabucci, Foster – Clare Keegan, Elena Knows – Claudia Pineiro
Not essential, but realise after sharing my examples: I like when there’s lots of inferance, but maybe not explictly talking about, social/cultural/political environment in the background.
