I don’t get it. I certainly can see flaws with Clavell’s Asian Saga (basically some dated orientalist aspects, but perhaps less than other writers publishing at the same time, and also very plot-driven) but I don’t understand how he could admire Rand. His work seems humane and emphasizes the web of individuals within society. Rand seems to think society can only hold heroic figures back, is not humane and is not written with any style or well-crafted plot.
What gives? Did he just go crazy in his old age?
