Google has proven less than useful so I thought I’d ask the experts. I’ve noticed people tend to use “SF” when referring to older works by Asimov, Bradbury, etc. but until I was getting into the genre more seriously in high school I had only ever heard “sci fi”. It feels like that’s the preferred term when dealing with media aside from literature—film, games, comics, etc.
Please note I’m not asking for when “science fiction” as a term was coined, I understand that was the 20’s.

According to Wikipedia, “Forrest J Ackerman has been credited with first using the term “sci-fi” (analogous to the then-trendy “hi-fi”) in about 1954.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Science_fiction#Alternative_terms
