My mom (51F) is looking to get into fiction. She loves biographies and political/historical books, and enjoyed Harry Potter and The Hobbit, but they weren’t her first choice.
She does NOT like spicy content. My forte is fantasy and romantic fiction, so I’m not really any help here. We would appreciate any and all recommendations. Thanks!
Edit: forgot to mention that she doesn’t like historical fiction. If there’s a super good hf book she’d give it a try, but she overall doesn’t like the genre.

All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot is a biographical but fictionalized tale of a large animal vet in England in the 1930s. If your mom likes history, she might appreciate that angle. It is a charming first book in a series with a cast of hilarious characters.
Check out the [Elena Ferrante](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elena_Ferrante) book series: The Neapolitan Diaries. They are really good.
Humans, by Matt Haig
The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
Ann Patchett’s “Bel Canto” may be a good start for her.
I am currently reading Cloudsplitter by Russell Banks. It is historical fiction and tells the story – through one of his sons recalling his life from his own old age – of John Brown, from his early years and culminating with the attack on Harper’s Ferry. It is very good.
