I dusted off my kindle recently and read two fantastic books ( Purity of Mind by Roger Ostrander. And Heartscale by Lola Ford), after not reading for years. I’ve read a few others since but nothing has really pulled me in the same. I’ll read just about anything, but prefer fantasy/ fiction. My problem is, I’m absolutely over the love interest/romance and almost everything remotely interesting to me ends up being based around falling in love. It’s just not interesting to me at the moment. Give me your suggestions if you got em. Bonus points if it’s not the standard recommendations like Lord of the rings, or book to movie adaptations ( I usually read the book before seeing the movie for those).

[The Hands of the Emperor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/af2bba9c-8f41-4a3e-b87a-8532a44ccb67) by Victoria Goddard! It’s basically a (very long) beautifully written slice of life book about the personal secretary to the emperor of the world, with a heavy focus on platonic love and little to no romance.
I would recommend Ascendance of a Bookworm! It is a originally Japanese light novel series about a girl who loves books above all else, has an unfortunate death and then finds herself reincarnated as a 5 year old girl in an alternative world where books are still unaffordable to most people. So of course the only logical conclusion is to make books of her own! The story starts with her being a little kid and follows her basically to adulthood, and the world kind of unfolds with her as she gets older. Some might find the pacing really boring, but I actually liked spending all that time with her and seeing her grow. There is also basically no romantic subplot, because the main character is just not interested in it (although there are some talks about engagements and marriages later on as a political tool and some romance for side characters, but it’s never the focus).
