Hola! I finished reading War&Peace two weeks ago and now I can’t shake off this trance induced by Tolstoy’s writing. Normally, when I read excellent work (which happens mainly when I read Dostoevsky, Steinbeck, Hemingway, and Marquez), I can’t get into another book for a week atmost. But God, it’s different and like a magical spell this time. I wanted to read something more contemporary and a bit short (\~350-400 pages). Picked three different books but can’t get past a few pages without getting bored by the prose. Can someone recommend a book or two to help me break this spell? Something with beautiful prose and a captivating story but more contemporary? I wanted to pick McCarthy but his work seems too depressing for my taste.
