I know I know, this book has a certain reputation. My wife read it and can’t stop thinking about it. She’s not an avid reader but she wants to pursue more so I’m supportive. She tore through it over the course of about a week which is a lot of reading for her. Is there anything you all can recommend that is similar?

This book is pretty hard to find something so well written, raw, emotional, etc.
So if we’re going by those themes in them the only thing I can remotely think of that invoked the same emotions and was a hard read yet couldn’t put it down is Demon Copperhead.
Look for “misery porn”. I’m told The Goldfinch works well.
If she’s looking for incredibly unhappy stuff she should read the Kite Runner.
