I need to read a book about a female athlete for a book challenge I’m doing, and the online lists I see mostly recommend “Carrie Soto is Back” with a sprinkle of fatphobic “fitness” related books. I do not care for TJR, I find her books mid, and life is too short to force yourself to read a mid book.
I will read a tennis book if y’all promise it’s good, but it feels a little sexist that every recommended women’s athlete book seems to be about either tennis or gymnastics. Why not basketball? Or track and field? Or cycling?
Some possible avenues I want to explore:
– biographies or autobiographies of trailblazing women athletes
– genre books (romance, mystery, sci fi) with women athletes as prominent characters. I’m a big mystery/thriller reader.
