One of my goals in 2024 is to read FUN books. Last year I read a lot of intense books and realized these weren’t really the escape I’m looking for in reading.
About my reading tastes:
I love fun sci-fi — Jasper Fforde, John Scalzi, Douglas Adams, etc.
Love a good contemporary with witty/fun characters.
I read Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone last month and enjoyed that! Fun mysteries or “thrillers” are awesome.
I’m not huge into romance, but am way more inclined to read if it’s genuinely funny.

Have you read any Lois McMaster Bujold? I laugh reading her books.
Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About by Mil Millington, all of PG Wodehouse, Terry Pratchett, My Sister the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite, if you like essays Samantha Irby or Lindy West, I find Jesse Q Sutanto’s mysteries pretty funny, especially the Vera Wong ones.
Carl Hiassen is great at making me laugh. He writes about Florida crime, it is often absurd in the best way. His earlier novels are my favorites.
“Everyone in this room will someday be dead” is a fun “thriller”
I recommend this all the time, but The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver is very fun. A road trip book with a new mom!
Head You Lose is really fun! Two authors write it together (each having to build on the other persons chapter)…sort of meta and silly.
