I had never read any of Murakami’s books, but my friend gave me this book, so I finished it in 2 days, but the thing is, I don’t even like running. There is something in it which keeps me engaged throughout, even if I don’t like running; the way of writing is really good. I love it when he gives advice on life but, at the same time, doesn’t. Can anyone relate with me.

Haven’t touched this specific book yet, but that’s kinda the vibe I feel reading Murakami in general. His prose is very dreamlike and subdued. He has a trance-y lull quality that keeps you coming back, even if you’re not sure why.

I’m a runner and I usually love Murakami’s works. This one was no different. His prose kept me glued to the pages and his ideas put to words many of my feelings. I really liked it.

With all that being said: his training is trash. How can you be a runner for so long, so accomplished and not know the basics of running trainning? This blew my head off! Like, the dude is super smart, why couldn’t he open a book and learn a thing or two about an activity that is so important to him?

If you are thinking about being a runner, please do read this book, take in all the ideas and experiences. But DO NOT train like this man! You can do much better and hurt yourself way less if you follow the basic principles.

      I love this book.

I try to get anyone I meet to read this book.

I had tried reading Murakami previously and just couldn’t get into it. But I was in a book store looking for books on how to be a better runner and I came across this book and I couldn’t put it down. The parallels he draws between writing and running just really wowed me. I think it’s his deep conveyance of emotion in his storytelling that drives the book.

I’m really grateful I found this book because it gave me a gateway to what is now one of my favorite contemporary Authors.
