I’ve really been craving some Black sci-fi lately; I’ve already read authors like N.K. Jemisin and Octavia Butler, but I would also like to hear some suggestions that don’t immediately pop up as the first search results on Google. Maybe some newer authors, maybe some underappreciated ones, maybe some books or authors that you just know are really good. Can be anything from speculative fiction to hard-core science fiction, but honestly, any Black sci-fi recs that you have are appreciated. Preferably adult, but I’m also open to YA, and graphic novels are also appreciated if you have them.

P Djeli Clark. I’ve enjoyed Masters of Djinn, but even moreso liked Ring Shout
Pulitzer prize winner Colson Whitehead has a good zombie story called Zone One.
Gutter Child by Jael Richardson, a dystopian tale in the vein of Margaret Attwood
The Old Drift by Namwali Serpell. It doesn’t get into the realm of sci-fi until toward the end, but there is a lot of speculative fiction in there that’s based on the real history of Zambia. It was probably the best book I read last year.
