Hey there, I 20/male struggle with very severe major depression and bad self-worth among other things like Anxiety, ADHD, OCD etc. for pretty much my whole life.

But the major depression+anxiety and bad self-worth are really the main issues that are interconnected because a big reason why I’m so depressed is my relationship with my self/identity/not being happy with myself and strong fear/anxiety of failing/not being capable (enough)/being perceived negatively.

Things like Therapie, mental hospitals etc. didn’t help me so I’m searching for a good book now that can help me get out of this struggle, because I pretty much have this since my whole life and especially the last years were so bad that I wasn’t able to leave my home and spend all the years alone in my room day by day feeling miserable without any friends/contacts, activities and obsessively trying to control myself to get out of this situation.

    1. I also have ADHD (severe) and I’ve had depression. I’ve found help in searching purpose. A short novel that really stuck with me is The Nonexistent Knight by Italo Calvino.
Having some type of responsibility also was huge for me to overcome my depression.

I recommend this book to everyone: The Untethered Soul – Michael Singer

      Wishing you well

    3. Maybe this can help you: a roman emperor wrote some amazingly timeless things on finding one’s place in life: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius:

Also if you need some fun stuff that has a “loser” type of guy as hero:

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
