I just read a thread that mentioned Lois lowery and a few of her books and just wanted to do a little appreciation post for her. I found her books maybe around 4th grade – middle school age and fell in love. Every single book I’ve read of hers has been great and many of her stories have stayed in my mind as I’ve grown up, even if I don’t remember the titles.

My all time favorites are “The Messenger” and “The Giver” (which I just learned are two parts of a series!?) and then also this one book with several short, creepy stories. One of the short stories is about a little man in someone’s shoe that makes the persons foot itch (bonus points to anyone who can tell me the name of this book so I can buy it again!).

I just love how well she wrote, how engaged she made the reader feel, and how her books are aimed for kids but didn’t make me feel like I was reading a child’s book.

    1. I read the giver in college, was a decent 1984-for-kids situation but never explored lowry further. it’s not a recommendations thread but check out the bridge to terabithia at some point, you might like it.
