looking for books specifically from a more feminist stance, in the sense that they offer compelling female characters as well as male, and hopefully continuing after mary queen of scots, timeline wise, but i’ll take any other suggestions as well.

If I understand your timeline, you might try Tracy Borman’s ‘The King’s Witch’ and its sequels. They start in roughly 1603 and continue onwards. I don’t know how central the monarchy is to the story later in the series, though.
Margaret George’s ‘Elizabeth I’ might fit your search as well.
