Hey book lovers!
I’m attending an “Author Talk” with a book signing to follow in a few days, with one of my favorite authors.
I don’t want to embarrass myself or be “that person”, so want to make sure I understand. I’ve never been to a book signing before!
It’s a free event put on by the local library and hosted at a school. Can I bring my books for signing? I read that usually you’ll buy a copy at the store to get signed, but we won’t be at a store.
If I can bring my books to be signed, how many is too many? How many is acceptable?
Thanks all! ❤️

Pick your favourite and bring that one. Otherwise you’ll hold up the line for everyone else, which could cut into how many people are able to get a book signed before the author has to leave (sometimes there can be a hard cutoff time, depending on if they have other commitments).
If there’s a new one out, it is possible the library has partnered with a bookseller to provide copies for sale at the event, so you could potentially also buy a copy and have that signed as well.
If there’s going to be a Q&A part of the talk, it would be worth thinking of something in advance if you think you might want to ask a question. And a backup in case someone else asks the same thing 🙂
This is based on my experience as a bookseller, running author events like this one.
I have no further advice than what was given by u/Katiedibs. I’m just curious what author you’ll be getting to meet? I’ve never tried to go to a book signing by a big author because the crowds are just too much for me! I’m excited for you 🙂
