Hey all! Recently I started getting into the horror genre. I started with Stephen King of course. I have read Pet Semetary, Salem’s Lot, It and The Shining. I really loved reading all 4 of these books and plan on reading more Stephen King in the future, but I am not really familiar with any of the other horror writers. Can anyone reccomend some horror novels that are similiar to the ones I mentioned above, but from anyone who is not Stephen King. The scarier the better:)

Nick Cutter is beloved on this sub and leans a lot more into *scary* than King does, in my opinion. Like, you know how King has the “don’t read under the covers” schtick? You actually shouldn’t with Cutter’s books. Start with *The Troop* or *The Deep*.
Also, browse around on r/horrorlit, you should find some good recs there too.
Insomnia,The girl who loved Tom Gordon, Firestarter, Carrie and Tommyknockers are probably top five horrors from King for me.
Joe Hill has some great horror books and he’s Stephen Kings son. Some similarities in the writing style.
I also would suggest the Ammityville Horror and the Exorcist both are also movies.
Fevre Dream by George R R Martin. Vampires on the steam boats of USA in mid 1800s.
