I’m looking for a Dark Fantasy book. I like things in the style of Labyrinth (both Pan’s Labyrinth and Jim Henson’s), Alice In Wonderland (and retellings, my favorite being the Splintered Series), The Neverending Story, Caraval, Wintersong, The Iron Fae series, etc. I enjoy things with fae in them not in the sense of attractive fae but leaning more towards the Irish/Scottish Folklore type. I also enjoy things having to do with Jesters. Anything that feels like a fever dream to read but is still written well is also right up my alley. If it has romance I enjoy things that are less cute and romantic and more things that are borderline obsession (like Jareth and Sarah, Legend from Caraval, Alyssa and Morpheus from Splintered, Der Erkling and Liesl from Wintersong, etc). I am also not opposed to romances where there is absolutely no happy ending and they tear each other apart. I am also ok if the book itself doesn’t have a happy ending. I love a good tragedy and sometimes even prefer it. I’ve searched high and low for a new book or series that’s Dark Fantasy but all that comes up is Booktok Books (which I generally am not a fan of having read a lot of them), and dark romance novels. Please don’t be afraid to recommend me some super dark or borderline horror books, I enjoy twisted fantasy.
