Nowadays I buy most books because I have heard of them online and the general themes of the book appeal to me.

The rare times when I buy a book – that I know nothing or almost nothing about – in the shop I usually go by

    – title
    – blurb
    – flip to somewhere past the first half of the book and read a paragraph to see if i like the writing style and the story seems intriguing enough

    How do you decide?

    1. I search for the book online and look for the worst non spoiler reviews, if their points are valid I won’t buy it. But if its just their personal preference that I will get the book.

    2. I only buy books that I’ve already read before (via purchased ebooks or from borrowing) that I’m sure I will read again in the future.
This is to save storage space and money of course.

    3. – Is the cover and title interesting? If yes,
      – I read the back to see if it sparks my intrest. If yes,
      – I flip open the book and check the font used and the way the pages look.

And sometimes, I check if the book is written in third person, and if the point of views change a lot. I often hate books that do that, with just a few exceptions. If the book/series sparked my interest big time, I can deal with it for the time being.
