Hey y’all. I’ve been trying to find some more graphic novels to read. I’m running into the problem of most shops just selling superhero comics, everyone recommending me the same ones, or all the ones I find online have terrible reviews.
I’m looking specifically in the genres of fantasy/sci-fi, queer fantasy/sci-fi, horror, or just queer. Some examples of my favorites:
• “The Moth Keeper” by K. O’Neill
• “Squire” by Sara Alfageeh and Nadia Shammas
• “On A Sunbeam” by Tillie Walden
• “Fly by Night” by Tara O’Connor
• “Hollow” by Shannon Waters, Brandon Boyer-White, and Berenice Nelle
• “Bloom” by Kevin Panetta and Savanna Ganucheau
• “Heartstopper” by Alice Oseman
There are many more wonderful ones I’ve read, but I think the collection of titles above showcases the type of graphic novels I usually read. I do read things outside of these categories (like recently “Ducks” by Kate Beaton) so I’m not fully tied to them and would be happy to look into any suggestions! I’d love if anyone has long ones or a series. Any art style is great, there is something to admire about all of them (I cannot draw at all and I think it’s really cool that people can). Additionally, I’d prefer (but in no way is a requirement) queer stories to be involving men or masculine GNC people. As a queer masc GNC person myself, I like to see myself in some of the things I read lol. Thank you in advance for any recs!
TLDR: I want some queer/horror/sci-fi/fantasy (or a combo of multiple) graphic novels recommendations at aren’t the same 5 people always recommend.

Queer horror: The Low, Low Woods by Carmen Maria Machado, The Nice House on the Lake by James Tynion IV, Carmilla: The First Vampire by Amy Chu
Queer sci-fi: Paper Girls by Brian K. Vaughn
Also: Jillian and Mariko Tamaki’s queer YA realistic graphic novels, Molly Knox Ostertag’s middle grade fantasy (like Witch Boy or The Girl from the Sea), and Alison Bechdel’s classic queer memoirs on the off-chance that you haven’t already read them.
Do you have access to Hoopla through your library? They have an amazingly extensive GN collection you can dabble in for free.
