Books with strong, amazing opening scenes that make you unable to put them down until you find out what was going on?

I’m looking for books that hook you from the very beginning with a powerful imagery or mystery. I’m specifically thinking of the first chapter in The Gone World by Tom Sweterlicht, but it doesn’t even have to be SF; Invisible Monsters by Chuck Pahlaniuk fits as well. a

Anything that more than tickles your curiosity and takes you for a ride until you hopefully get a satisfactory, not at all anticlimactic or disappointing explanation.
