The Power by Naomi Alderman! Did anybody else get that it’s not just the physical manifestation of a superpower that makes women more dominant over the men. When they developed the power at first, it was only physical property, but it wasn’t until they discovered power within themselves that they were able to rise up and be dominant. I feel like everyone’s talking about this book, as though it is meant to be taken as women being stronger physically than men and what would happen because of it. I find it fascinating that in the end, where the book editor character is having a conversation with the author character, Naomi Alderman hence at the idea that power is in the shape of the eternity symbol. That it is complex, and always changing. There’s always a back-and-forth, give and take that we may live in a patriarchy now, but we might have lived in a matriarchy and history has rewritten itself, and even more interesting still is that we may return to a matriarchy one day…
