Idk if this is a trope or a cliche, but I absolutely *hate* the male character who’s a cop or a superhero and he’s obsessed with his dead wife or girlfriend. I don’t think I’ve ever found it engaging at all, and it gets worse the more I see it (because I *keep seeing it*). It doesn’t make the guy more relatable or likable. It just makes it seem like he can’t focus on the present (especially if there’s a romantic subplot). And if he cares more about his past than his present, why should I care about his present? It’s just horrible to me.
