I have a list of books I want to get. When I spot one, I can never remember whether I’ve already bought it. I’m looking for something I can use to catalog my books, preferably by scanning the barcode/isbn and letting the software look up the details and cover art.
Specifically I do not want to use ebooks, this is for physical copies only.
I was hoping I could get excel to do an api lookup on openlibrary but it’s a bit messy.

Have you tried using an app like storygraph or goodreads?
I know there are apps for specifically logging what you own/read but I find that both of the above work great for logging by scanning ISBN. Some lesser known books have to be added by using the search function but overall isbn works well.
I prefer storygraph but thats just personal taste
I’ve used LibraryThing.com (and the app) for years. It’s not as pretty as Goodreads, but it is excellent for cataloguing and keeping track of books I plan to read.
I’ve used Libib for exactly this.
