God Of Small Things (1997) (4.5/5) By Arundhathi Roy.

    > The story of the Syrian Christian aristocratic family and how the family fell into ruin after a series of events told in a non-linear way.
    > The story primarily deals with Ammu and her two egg twins, Rahel and Estha, and how their childhood was shaped and spent.

    > The story takes place between 1969 and 1993 with a disjointed narrative that comes to the present, past and future in between.

    > Concerns with Love Laws that include whom should be loved and how much?
    > Deals with casteism and class disparity and familial conflict existed in Kerala in the past.
    > The book shows how seemingly insignificant events, occurrences, decisions shape people’s behavior and lives in significant ways.
    > Roy writes bare heartily and presents us with the vulnerability and impenetrability of human minds.
    > Her characters are simple but complex at the same time due to the matter of fact that she writes them so normally and undisguised. We are exposed to the carefree, selfish, unrefined human mind.
    > The ending is heartbreaking and shocking and there is no other way around. you either love it or not?
    > Roy’s narrative excellence provokes and amuses the reader and makes it an absolute page-turner.
    > A sad story, told hilariously and beautifully.

“If you’re happy in a dream, does that count? “
