Hi fellow bookworms,
I love essays. It’s a revelation that I’ve lately had after struggling for a couple years to pick up countless unread books, mostly novels, piling up on my nightstand. My current struggle however is how to find good essays. They just suddenly appear in my life. They are sometimes being given to me as a gift. Or they appear in the form of a stranger reading them in the subway. But usually I can’t find them when I look for them in stores or book shops. Most stores I go to don’t even have a “true” essay section, they’re just in the section with all other nonfiction.
So far my favorite essays are by Simone de Beauvoir, the essays by Joan Didion and Having and being had by Eula Biss. (Some are by the German author Daniel Schreiber but I don’t think they’ve been translated to English yet.)
What are you’re favorite Essays?
How do you find more essays to read, that really strike a nerve with?
