Hello,
So the last time I was able to read a full book smoothly was the pandemic. Since then, I’ve picked up full-time work and am just exhausted all the time. I can’t even finish the self-help books that help with self-discipline, lol.
But sometimes (for me at least) reading a book with similar emotions to what I’m feeling helps me channel it away. So does anyone have something easy to read (gripping) that’s either scary, depressing, and/or sad? – weird combo, I know, but that’s my mixed bag right now and would love to get some fresh input on what to “try” to read next!
Thank you so much in advance.

Kindred by Octavia Butler is all those things but also a really gripping thriller.
Davita’s Harp by Chaim Potok is tragic and beautiful and hard to put down.
The Vegetarian – Han Kang
I think it’s the perfect combination of all three (scary, depressing, sad) lol.
The Circus Fire by Stewart O’Nan.
True story of the day the big top caught fire during a performance
in Hartford, Connecticut. Gripping, amazing, true.
