I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I consider myself a passionate reader but I only read fiction. Even if a story is interesting I find it hard to read if it is non fiction. Once in some facebook group an admin asked me if I read certain document. And I was too ashamed to tell her that I didn’t because it’s non fiction. I mean I like quite a lot of different topics but when it comes to long articles and books – I just can’t. How can I grow into non fiction reader? Cause “only fiction” refrains me from reading a lot of great stories… I once took a book about Lithuanian history with a pretty interesting topic fallowing a personal story. But I couldn’t finish it. Couldn’t read even halfway through. It was for a reading challange. I hope one day I will be able to read it…

    1. There are a lot of non-fiction books that read like fiction. Erik Larson, David Grann, and Jon Krakauer are authors who have a good track record. Sonia Purnell’s “A Woman of No Importance” , Jonathan Freedland’s “The Escape Artist” , and Robert Kolker’s “Hidden Valley Road” are examples books by other authors

    2. Oy, me too. I don’t know why it should be embarrassing, but it is. I did recently read The Wager though. That was fantastic – I read it in a day! Also, I have read a few memoirs, which kind of feel like bridging the gap between fiction and nonfiction. Maybe that would be something to try?

It’s okay, you’re balancing out the people who only read non-fiction.

But if you do want to try non-fiction, maybe try some memoirs that read a bit more like novels. Or some collection of essays that are on the light and humorous side, so fun to read. Humour could be a good way to get into the non-fiction side generally. Try out books that deal with history or science or whatever in a fun way, while still being educational.
