Good Afternoon or Morning wherever you may be!

I need some help. I’ve been in a serious reading slump recently, but it’s not without trying. I’ve tried to pick up several books, got a quarter, halfway, or even finished a book. Yet have not been captured or pulled into the stories and worlds.

Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go; got a 1/3 of the way, no interest. Tried to read Osamu Dazai’s books, didn’t capture me in the slightest. I’ve picked up and put down Notes From Underground more times than I can count, even though I devoured C&P. Tried reading some Canadian Non-Fiction, until I realized I wasn’t retaining any of the information. Tried some lighter book about a time travelling coffee shop in Japan; bored. Finished Steinbeck’s East of Eden in a couple weeks and found it unremarkable. If it wasn’t for the massive Old Testament shadow looming over it I definitely would’ve forgotten the characters names by now.

Once, I could pick up a book and all time and space around me turned to background static. And when I finished the book, I could stare into space and glimpse something better, and a deep sense of longing for the book I just finished. I’m looking for novels that completely captured you guys, books you fell completely in love with like the first time you read a book. I was given Lois Lowry’s The Giver as a child and it completely changed me.

    I’d really appreciate it!!
