As the title says. I loved Six of Crows (and especially the sequel Crooked Kingdom) for its characters, the world-building, the social commentary, Bardugo’s writing style, etc. but when I read King of Scars in 2019 I was really let down. As a result, I haven’t picked up the sequel, The Rule of Wolves even though it’s been out for a while.
My disappointment with KoS was mainly due to plot reasons (the whole thing with the >!bee woman!< in the middle felt out of place and I nearly threw the book at the wall at the end when>! the Darkling somehow came back!<). The political intrigue was amusing although I wished there was more and I liked how secondary characters from the original SaB trilogy were more fleshed out. I liked Nina in the SoC trilogy, but I’m not excited to read more about her like I would be the other characters.
It’s been a while since I read KoS. The only reason I could see myself picking up RoW is if a 3rd Six of Crows book was announced or if folks were to convince me RoW really improves upon KoS. What are your thoughts?
