I’m on the lookout for a profoundly sad book that will have me in tears until the wee hours of the morning. It’s been a while since I’ve found a book that can truly tug at my heartstrings, so I’m hoping to discover one that will make me bawl my eyes out like never before.

In the past, books like “Things I Never Told You,” “If He Had Been with Me,” and “13 Reasons Why” have left me emotionally wrecked.
But I’m becoming a tough nut to crack when it comes to shedding tears, so I’m really hoping to find something that will hit me right in the feels.

Thank you all in advance for your suggestions!

As long as the lemon trees grow by Zoulfa Katouh. I’ve read this book a few months ago and I’m still not over it.

    2. We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver is the one that tugged at my heartstrings

If you’re up for a series, the Wingfeather Saga starts out funny (Princess Bride humor) yet causes weeping later on. It’s YA so a fairly fast read. The 4-book journey is a beautiful, amazing, captivating, and heart-rending story of love, courage, redemption, family, and hope.

The Art of Racing in the Rain. Do not read, for example, on the sly at work, or any other public places.

The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum

If you are a fan of true crime or emotional reads in general this is a book for you. This book is a fictional retelling of the Sylvia Likens story. The book is told in the first person point of view of a neighborhood boy. The narrator is telling the story as an adult and looking back on what he witnessed and how messed up the situation was. 5/5 highly recommend.

On the Beach – Nevil Shute

A Canticle for Leibowitz – Walter M. Miller, Jr.

I haven’t read it myself, but from what I’ve heard A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara is really intense.
