Hello all. I am seeking for historical fiction/fantasy or nonfiction that is about South America. I do have some constraints, though.

    1. I don’t want any of the ‘latin american boom’ authors or any boom-adjacent. Everyone and their mother (and AI) suggests these and I’m looking for less recommended authors. (Exceptions are welcome!)
    2. That being said, the authors don’t necessarily have to be South American.
    3. I don’t want any dictator novels or anything about drugs or the drug trade.
    4. I’m only looking for South America, nothing from Central America or Mexico please.
    5. Historical can include pre-columbian or colonial times.

I will include a few books as examples (and books that don’t need suggesting I suppose):

    * Tierra del Fuego by Sylvia Iparraguirre: historical fiction based on true story of the British taking a Yanamo native back to the UK to ‘civilize’ him.
    * The Chankas and the Priest by Sabine Hyland: Non-fiction microhistory of a murderous priest and the Chankas people in the highlands of Peru
    * Three Halves of Ino Moxo by Cesar Calvo: Author goes on quest to interview an Amazonian sorcerer. Mix of fiction and non-fiction.
    * Pachacuti: World Overturned by Lori Eshleman: Colonial Historical fiction in Ecuador.
