I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in English Literature and loving every minute! I still love to read on breaks but usually opt for less dense reads / palette cleansers. I’m not above any genre or style but I am looking for something that is generally an easy and enjoyable read while also scratching the itch of a classic (especially lesser known ones)! I’m fortunate to be planning a beach vacation for my spring break and so far I’m bringing To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf. I’d love to add a couple more to pack with me. Any recommendations?

I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

Macunaima by Mario de Andrade, a tropical Brazilian fantasy that is a blend of different stories from Amazonian mythology.

Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. It’s a classic from the 1800s but also a pageturner, it’s got your estates and heirs and also a bit of murder and intrigue

Something by Winnifred Holtby. South Riding is her most famous one but they’re generally all lovely.

Or Stella Gibbons Cold Comfort Farm.
