Are you looking for fiction or nonfiction? For a novel, maybe *Qualityland* by Marc-Uwe Kling?

Try Matt Tabbi’s “Hate Inc.” it’s tangentially related, it talks about the polarising of media and how it’s contributing to the current extreme narratives.
Anything by Michael Lewis on finance (he writes a lot of sport themed books also) but his books on finances, and in particular the financial crisis ( “The Big Short” was made into a movie ) show a lot about how society is affected by big money moves and why it’s often disastrously managed resulting in consequences for society. His books are always interesting because he tends to a focus on the people behind the event, and involved in the event, not just the event itself.
Someone else recommended Naoma Klein’s “No Logo”, second that one.

Slightly related, but equally harrowing:
*[Terms of Service: Social Media and the Price of Constant Connection](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25816881-terms-of-service)* by Jacob Silverman
