The idea is someone could read those 3 books and get a good sense of what that genre offers. Doesn’t necessarily have to be the best 3 books of that genre, but the best combination of 3 that you most feel encapsulates the genre as a whole and would help someone get into reading it. This stems from a conversation I recently had about this topic with a friend. Some of my picks;
Fiction (Classic Fiction? Not sure)
1. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway
2. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey
3. The Call of the Wild by Jack London
Sci-Fi
1. Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
2. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
3. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Fantasy
1. The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
2. Small Gods by Terry Pratchett
3. A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K Le Guin

Fiction was one of your genres? Every book you mentioned is fiction. Way too broad. There’s roughly 12 million works of fiction.
