So far I liked it under the assumption that it’d been accurate to history and scientific consensus, but when looking into it further I see a lot of people saying it’s much more biased and inaccurate than I’d been told it was initially, is there another book that’s similar to it that would be good to read in it’s place?

From my understanding it’s not wrong or inaccurate. It’s just not extremely scholarly and leaves a lot out such as competing theories. You will likely get this from just about any book (especially ones meant to be accessible to people without degrees). History is not something we can determine with clarity, especially going back that far.

Hell, I read sociology, anthropology, and history books for fun. Scholarly and otherwise. While I sympathize with your plight, all of them are also disputed. That’s the way of things. Sometimes something is right until it’s wrong as well– like when we uncover new evidence.

I would recommend just taking it with a grain of salt and using it as a foundation for expanding your knowledge. Don’t take any history book or anthropology book as pure facts.
