or really anything with a deep psychological focus on adolescent characters. Goodnight punpun and donnie darko are some of my favorite stories ever, and of the few books I’ve read, my favorites include stuff like Kafka on the shore, Coin locker babies, and the ETA parts of infinite jest. any genre goes other than stuff that’s too stereotypically “YA”
the wasp factory is already on my plan to read list

“Push” by Sapphire (PTSD/sexual abuse/incest)
“The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time” by Mark Haddon (Asperger’s syndrome)
“Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” by Jonathan Safran Foer (grief and depression)
“The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao” by Junot Díaz (depression/transgenerational trauma)
I lovedddd Kafka on the Shore btw. Not a book, but I highly recommend the HBO show Euphoria for accurate teen mental illness portrayals.
