I am currently in a situation where I cannot leave my employer and need to make the best out of it until that changes.
The owner of our very small company is incompetent. His dad bankrolled the business that he’s running it into the ground. So there’s an egg of money that he’s just running through. His shoty business practices are going to have our business going under.
He has no idea what he’s doing and I’m always cleaning up his messes. But when I try to cut these problems off before they start he won’t listen to me. I’ve tried many different tecniques to communicate but they’ve all been ineffectual.
He has a short attention span, is impulsive, easily influenced by the external but devalues the voices of subordinates. He struggles to learn from his mistakes. He’d rather double down than admit he’s wrong. Logic based arguments seem to go over his head. I say this not to insult him, just to give some points of reference for the appropriate books.
I would love to leave but until then I need to manage this situation. I’m looking for books on communicating with or influencing the personality described above. Books that educate on that personality could work as well. My primary concern being that I need to cut these problems off before they get too big, I would prefer books with concrete advice than anything else.
