I’m not sure how else to describe it more succinctly, but I’m interested in finding a book that dives into the pop cultural, sub cultural identity of women and how it’s changed through time in movies, books, art etc.

Maybe similar to the book A Heroines Journey by Maureen Murdock but more modern? There is also an excellent article published in the NYT by Brit Marling titled “I don’t want to be the strong female lead” that discusses the nuances of female identities through the last few decades and how we have molded ourselves to fit into a space that wasn’t ever accommodating to us (Hollywood and movie making etc).

I’m no literary scholar so I’m honestly not entirely sure if there is a word or form of study to describe what I’m getting at. But just the portrayal of women in media and how that role has historically looked vs how women have tried to change it over time.

    Clear as mud?

Searching for Sycorax by Kinitra Brooks is an exploration of Black women in horror. I think it’s right up your alley!
