Either adult or YA is fine. As an example, two of my favorite books with this dynamic are Mill on the Floss, by George Eliot. And Two Can Keep a Secret, by Karen McManus (the main character Ellery’s relationship with her brother). As you can see, my tastes are quite diverse 🙂
