    SPOILERS!!!

Throughout the whole book, Richard seems to sort of like Camilla or at least want something from her but there are two parts in the book that creeped me out and just wanted to hear your thoughts.

If I remember right his attitude suddenly changes towards Camilla (although not for too long) when he finds out about the incest between her and Charles, but even after she shows him proof of Charles abusing her (the hair and bruises), he seems more disapproving of her than ever of Charles.

For instance, there’s a part when he says “…in a certain and perverse way I was pleased at her distress.” He never expresses anything of that sort about Charles even though he was far more problematic.

The other time was when they’re in his room and he randomly gets this thought about strangling/r* and attacking her. I know a lot of people just say this was an intrusive thought, but was it though? It felt kind of genuine to me and wouldn’t be surprising considering how horrible they all were.

Then by the end, it seems like he can never let go. Why do you think he wanted to marry her?

Also, side note, but I can’t possibly imagine that bacchanal happening. I thought maybe I would after getting to know the characters a little better but I just can’t imagine them being high and having an orgy in the middle of the woods while wearing sheets and pretending they’re Ancient Greeks. If I remember right, Henry kind of confirmed the bacchanal was in fact sexual but it’s just unfathomable to me.
