Hi, I’m looking for books where the main character finds out some dark hidden secret about themeselves/their family/their circumstamces etc. I really want to read books that fill me with dread for what will happen, where the main character feels practivally suffocated as the clues all start to line up.
Some examples of these types of stories/books I’ve enjoyed in the past (with apologies for mainly having not as well-known/very scandic-leaning examples):
– “Rebecca” by Daphne du Maurier
– “Absent in the spring” by Agatha Christie (as Mary Westmacott)
– the novels of Agnes Ravatn
– the novels of Maren Uthaug
– the realism-type plays of Henrik Ibsen
I would avsolutely love recommendations, regardless of whether you are familiar with my examples or not!
